9/11 Photograph By Thomas Hoepker

I was wandering through Facebook and came across The Guardian page with reference to this Thomas Hoepker photograph from the September 11 attacks.

Here is a random quote I have taken from the article that struck me as odd:

"In other words, a country that believes in moving on they have already moved on, enjoying the sun in spite of the scene of mass carnage that scars the fine day. Indeed, I can't help thinking the five apparently unmoved New Yorkers resemble the characters in the famous 1990s television comedy Seinfeld, who in the show's final episode are convicted under a Good Samaritan law of failing to care about others."

I find the reference odd, but quite understand it from the scene played out in the photo. But please feel free to leave your comment.. I would love to hear what you think about it..

Platon Widely tomorrow.... SUPER SIKED!!!

Well I'm off tomorrow to the Semi Permnent Master Class to be held by Platon Widely.

Platon has given us some beautiful images, and is arguably one of the champions of close up Portrait Photographers. I love the ideas and images Platon comes up with. He seems to have a wonderful report with his sitters, and seems to get some really special out of them.

There is always an unusual warmth in his photos. I love the way the photos draw you in. You tray and engage the sitter even though you have no way of getting a response. Every picture I look at is like drinking honey.

Can't wait to meet the man..

Platon Widely to give a Master Class

I just found out that one of my favorite Portrait Photographers Platon Widely is giving a seminar at the Semi-Permanent Melbourne creative conferences.

At $160 it's worth every cent to hear this man talk about his photographs and the process he uses to get his images.

Can't wait!!!

Time to Prep yet again.

Well it has all started a big ball rolling at the moment...

I have 2 weddings booked and a couple of Portraits to shoot as well. Now a little bit of research to do with the customers as to what they want, then some gear to organize as well. Better to be organized than to fluff about at the last minute.

So I have been harassing a few friends that are photographers and even my mentor has had his brain picked clean, and I have come up with something that should get me through. Both of the weddings will primarily be shot with a 24-70mm 2.8 lens. With all the research I have done, and the brains I have picked, I have found out that this seems to be an 80% lens for most wedding shooters. On my Nikon D300S (APS-C Sensor) the lens will give me 36-105mm in a constant 2.8f which will give me the widest gamut of shooting options with just 1 lens. I would pack a 85mm in 1.8f as well to cover other eventualities (85mm turns into 125mm).

So time to trawl the images around the net for inspiration..

I don't know why I like this so much.. Is it the girl with the Radio giving me such a ponderous look, or the guy in the Bell hat looking straight down the barrel, or is it that everyone around them doesn't seem to care..

Just another day Here.... Or is that there...

So many little jobs to complete, I'm thinking it's time for a snack!!

I have about 30 images I need to get re-mounted and framed; I have 5 emails to reply to about Photographs; I have to send one email to a local Cafe about exhibiting some of my work as well; plus I have to chase up a framer that works at a reasonable price......

Like I said....... Lots of little jobs today...

Sometimes things don't go so well......

Today was going to be a busy day of shooting and editing, then it all went ass up and I got not very much done.

I had a wonderful friend of mine lined up for some nudes, and when I got to her place she was sneezing and snuffleing with a cold. So that's that idea done and gone. So I took her out for a nice lunch and coffee instead. This also gave me time to pop in to the Art Supply store and pick up a few things for framing.

So really all in all, a bad day became a sort of OK day. Now I can at least get some pictures Matted and backed and then off to the framers.

Photo Shoots..... Busy Weekend...

Well today is a planning day...

I have 1 definite shoot for the weekend, but there is a pretty strong plan on a second. I have an Artistic Nude B&W Shoot with a friend of mine. I have planned a simple Still Life shoot as well.

I have also spent a fair amount of time in the the art studio getting some other Paste Up stuff ready. Things just take time and I can't wait to get it all moving..

So much to do, and so little time..

Some more Sports Photos.....

Managed to get to DISC (Darebin International Sports Complex) just a touch early today and snatched a few pictures of the riders racing before I had a training session.

Shouldn't take to long to get a few up for you to look at tomorrow.

Stay Posted.

Looking to expand the arsenal... And add a BIG Printer..

Today starts the research for some new kit at PhyNyght Studio.

I have thought and thought over the matter and decided, we should get a printer. Now the major problem in this is deciding on what one? GGGAAAHHHHHHH there are so many. The only thing I know for sure is that #Epson is the winner but as to which size is the key. I need to rationalize the size of the prints we want to do in house, and what we are going to send off to the Lab for Printing. I still think anything over 12"x18" should probably go to the lab because it wont fit comfortably on A3+ size.

So that said I think the Photo R3000 will be the winner unless  find some money behind the couch and can get a Stylus Pro 3880...

Big Decision's.... BIG DECISION'S.....

Monotony..... But still a useful tool...

Having to search and find programs to work the way you want can be such a pain, But when you get it right, it's great.

I'm using the Nikon software ViewNX2 to do some BULK converting of .jpg images and it seems to do a pretty good job. It will rename and even drop the files into a new folder while not breaking up the things you have already done.

So if you have a Nikon Camera, take a good look at the Nikon Software..
