Time to Prep yet again.

Well it has all started a big ball rolling at the moment...

I have 2 weddings booked and a couple of Portraits to shoot as well. Now a little bit of research to do with the customers as to what they want, then some gear to organize as well. Better to be organized than to fluff about at the last minute.

So I have been harassing a few friends that are photographers and even my mentor has had his brain picked clean, and I have come up with something that should get me through. Both of the weddings will primarily be shot with a 24-70mm 2.8 lens. With all the research I have done, and the brains I have picked, I have found out that this seems to be an 80% lens for most wedding shooters. On my Nikon D300S (APS-C Sensor) the lens will give me 36-105mm in a constant 2.8f which will give me the widest gamut of shooting options with just 1 lens. I would pack a 85mm in 1.8f as well to cover other eventualities (85mm turns into 125mm).

So time to trawl the images around the net for inspiration..

Larry Clark..... TULSA

I have picked a few books to do some write ups on and thought I would start with one from probably the most "Accidental" photographers of our time Larry Clark.

In his photo book Tulsa Larry Clark shows a side of the world that we only could imagine, and still never understand. He spent 3 years of shooting up with his friends when he was 16, and managed to get away from it all. But from the last line in the cover blurb "Once the needle goes in it never comes out" we all wonder if "the feel of the steel" ever left him.

He was close to a life and people that, unbeknownst to them, were being photographed and recorded in a period of life that could be best under-described as "Turbulent". He is close to people and actions that we could never see in our circle of friends. There is an inherent danger in every photo, as well as a sadness that ebbs and flows from image to image.

It's such a sad book, with it's photo of a soon to be mother injecting Amphetamines and later seeing said baby in a coffin just clobbers you in the head with reality. The picture of a doe eyed boy acting as tourniquet for another shooter. The picture of a man laying in bed with a woman crying next to him after he was accidentally shot in the thigh.  These images haunt and grow in your mind and you backwards and forwards through them asking yourself if they are real or not.

Please take a look at Larry Clark's work and take a look at his book TULSA available through Amazon or you local book store.

Trying new film.... FUN!!

Been shooting the Lomo Holga a bit as of late and found some Rollei Crossbird in 200ISO. This is a roll film that can be processed in both E6 (which gives "normal" color negs) or in C41 (which gives the Color Cross). You can see some of the results at Lomography site.

Once I get the shots out of the camera I will post them up.

I don't know why I like this so much.. Is it the girl with the Radio giving me such a ponderous look, or the guy in the Bell hat looking straight down the barrel, or is it that everyone around them doesn't seem to care..

I thought about what kind of Musical Interlude for this, and could only come up with this.. I'm not proud that I knew this track existed...

Still Life..... And other treasures.....

I have seen a Still Life that looks like a broken shattered can, and have decided to take a crack at it in my style. I will use not only the Digital, but the Holga is charged with some color film and is gonna get a big crack at it as well. I really like shooting small things like this in Film as they get such a lovely tone and deep rich color as well.

I have also taken a few emails asking for a couple of prints to be hung in a couple of local cafes here in Melbourne. As soon as a few things go up I will inform.

So currently I'm shooting Still Life on LOMO as well as Digital, getting pictures re mounted and framed, and chasing around for a few places to hang them..

Busy busy busy.....

Just another day Here.... Or is that there...

So many little jobs to complete, I'm thinking it's time for a snack!!

I have about 30 images I need to get re-mounted and framed; I have 5 emails to reply to about Photographs; I have to send one email to a local Cafe about exhibiting some of my work as well; plus I have to chase up a framer that works at a reasonable price......

Like I said....... Lots of little jobs today...

Sometimes things don't go so well......

Today was going to be a busy day of shooting and editing, then it all went ass up and I got not very much done.

I had a wonderful friend of mine lined up for some nudes, and when I got to her place she was sneezing and snuffleing with a cold. So that's that idea done and gone. So I took her out for a nice lunch and coffee instead. This also gave me time to pop in to the Art Supply store and pick up a few things for framing.

So really all in all, a bad day became a sort of OK day. Now I can at least get some pictures Matted and backed and then off to the framers.

Photo Shoots..... Busy Weekend...

Well today is a planning day...

I have 1 definite shoot for the weekend, but there is a pretty strong plan on a second. I have an Artistic Nude B&W Shoot with a friend of mine. I have planned a simple Still Life shoot as well.

I have also spent a fair amount of time in the the art studio getting some other Paste Up stuff ready. Things just take time and I can't wait to get it all moving..

So much to do, and so little time..

Metallic Paper..... OOHHHHHHHH YYYEEEAAAAHHHHHHH

Dropped off a couple of simple Black and Whites and a Color Urban Landscape to Bond Imaging for printing on Metallic Paper and WOW..

I have found a new friend in papers. These prints look FANTASTIC and has a lovely metallic sheen. I'm not convinced on the Color Prints, but the Black and Whites look SUPERB..

Now I'm thinking of shots to do that will take advantage of this wonderful paper and finish.
